Where are the clips I need to get at get them off? How do I remove the metal handle part? What is holding the arm rest on? I already jacked up the back door of my parts car. Help!
two 3/8" screws for the arm rest at the bottom and either a phillup or 5/16" or so bolt at the top behind the metal bezel, one phillup head screw for the window crank (remove center insert), one phillup screw in the center of the bezel of the inside door latch (remove black insert with a straight screwdriver or something) are for the clips, they're just located around the outer edge of the panel. i use a door panel remover to get them off but i have also used an old license plate and it worked great as well
To remove the door panels you first have to remove the arm rest and the door handle cups. To remove the door handle cups, take a flat screwdriver and pry off the plastic cup behind the actual handle. It is clipped on on both ends. Once that is off you should see a screw holding on the metal part of the cup. Remove the screw, pull the handle towards you as if you were opening the door and slip the metal cup off. Next come the armrest. On the long, slender part of the armrest is a chrome collar. Again using the screw driver, you need to unclip the collar from the little metal bracket inside the door panel. Sometimes these collars can be a real bear to get unclipped and you need to be careful not to poke a hole in the door panel with the screw driver. Once the collar is unclipped, slide it down the armrest. There will be a screw at the top of the armrest that was under the collar. Remove that screw. Look underneath the wide part of the armrest for two holes. Inside those two holes will either be a pair of large, long screws or a pair of bolts. Remove those and the armrest will drop off. The door panel is held on with about twenty or so clips that are located on the back of the panel. They are about 1 inch down from the edge of the panel and a couple of inches a part. Starting from the bottom of the panel you need to pry them out of the holes in the door. You can feel where the clips are by first getting one unclipped and them sliding your fingers along the inside of the panel edge. It is easier to pop out the clips if you have an upholstery clip remover. That is a V shaped tool made for removing clips, but a screw driver will work in a pinch. If you use the screw driver, be careful not to tear apart the fiberboard behind the doorpanel.
Thanks Guys. I cracked the back panel on the parts car, But i got it as a safe place to make mistakes, too.
