Back in the driveway again after making junk of my rear Friday looks like I lost some teeth. So I am now in need of an 8" chunk but this time I think Ill try 4.11's
You think? I am starting to think that to but it looked like the teeth just let go and threw the gear back busting both caps and tatooing the housing. How much can an 8 take any way? I know the gears have been in there for 15 years and it is the only thing left I had not replaced. So the question is can an 8 inch take launching at 4k on a brake? Suggestions please. Inquiring minds need to know.
The caps is what gave up, saw this happen more than once. The caps are the weak point. No a 8 inch will not take launching at that rpm with that much weight. They are just not physically stout enough.
Big score today !! I went to "Crazy Rays" the local junk yard and scored a big bearing 9" then after getting it to home and pulling it apart we found it has a 4.11 posi w/spool chunk in it. It came out of a 88 full size bronco, not sure why some one would put that chunk in a bronco but it looks pretty new and does not appear to be factory I'm thinking since the chunk was orange w/RTV sealant used. You think this one will hold up?
Rick, wtg with the 9 inch. Make it so it won't break later, (stonger the better) because with most of us we have to find more ponys as we go. Hurry back to the track! Bossmav
