Went to the Port Alberni Drags a few weeks ago...and just found a link to a few pics: http://www.horsepowerheaven.com/ first link is called: "more Port Alberni pics" and down a little further is the second link called: "Port Alberni Pics" I have a few pics in both links(Blue Mav). It is always mega hot at this event. Last year I ran a best(at this track) of 12.34 with my 4:10 gears...this year I wanted to try out my new(to me) rear with 3:43 gears, which I put in for the drive down to Knotts Berry Farm in April. Turns out the 3:43 geared posi was not much good as I did the one legged dance...both the burnout and off line launches. 60ft went from 1.83's with the 4:10s to 1.98's and 9's(had to ease into it off line). My best ET was a 12.40 in the heat of the day(engine temp over 230). I was kinda shocked at the ET as I figured if I had traction I would have run better with these gears than my 4:10's. Opposite what I would have expected! My dial-ins are 12:50 because that was the cut-off between Mod and Pro(wanted to run Mod). Car ran hot because my battery decided to pick that weekend to die and as such I had to boost it to start and keep it idling though the staging lanes.

When you say, "you did the one-legged dance", I assume you mean the rear was performing like an open rear...only one tire actually doing anything. Was your posi not working correctly or was there something wrong elsewhere? I'm curious because I am contemplating using a posi rear versus Detroit locker and I want something that will perform well at the track but still work for street driving. I'm not convinced that a posi will be the best choice.

gene, i had an 8" with a posi in my 64 fairlane when i started out. couldn't do a 2 wheel burnout with it. had the shop take it out and beef it up. still wouldn't work. finally put a mini spool in it. i don't really trust the old technology. for what i spent i could have put a new locker in it. i'll use a posi for the street, but not if i'm going to be racing it. JMO:)

Thanks Don. Single wheel burnouts suck. I think when I re-do my 8" I'll seriously be thinking about a locker instead of a posi. I too started out with a posi in my drag car and ended up switching to a mini-spool. I thought maybe posi technology might have changed since then but maybe not. I plan on trips to the track and don't want to suffer in the traction dept. :D

I agree with Don! Posi works great with street tires..but when I mounted the slicks it was useless. Right off line the car would pull to the right as long as I had my foot in it....and snap back the other way the instant I let go the throttle(not fun at the big end). I just put my locker back in and its like night and day(went from 1.99 60ft to 1.71 60's..same gears)...this is the only way to go for a street car that goes to the track... as far as I'm concerned anyway. Spools may be cheaper but if you lose control of the car on the street, or break an axle and cause and accident, I'm not so sure the insurance company or Police would be to nice about it(not to mention how you would feel). I wouln't even bother with a Posi if I had any choice...get the locker..you'll love it!

Hey Ray! Long time no hear! This is the Race you were going to try and make last year. Its a good one...tons of fun and lots of super cars. You should try for next year..I can let you know when they pic a date. I ended up going to the semi's..but broke out which is not hard considering I had to sand bag.
