so it seems like I might benefit from some drag radials. My car is my daily driver and I put 12-15K on it every year. Is there DR's I can use on the street as well, how long you figure they would last? Ideally I'd like to have only one set but I'm open to getting a second set of rims with DR. Everyone seems to recommend the MT, any size preferences?

I have a set of M&H "cheater slicks" (legal for street use) and intend to use them almost exclusively for the track. With such a (relatively) soft compound, I'd be surprised to get of 5K miles from them on the street. True "drag radials" may have better longevity, I'm sure there are drivers on the forum who can advise you on the best brand/model...

I've heard of drag radials lasting around 10 to 12k miles. Now rember that you don't want to be caught in the rain with them. If you get the right backspaceing on your wheels you can fit 275/60-15s. With your current wheels you can't go bigger than what you have now.

10-12K is really not that bad. I could get some drag radials for now and shop for cheap rims when the rainy season rolls around. Any recommendations as to where to buy them locally bry?

any tire store can order them for you. i doubt that any would have them in stock. ive got a few contacts that sell tires. i can get prices from them. i doubt that they will be able to beat jegs summit or tirerack. also the bronco will need new shoes too.

I have had good luck with Nitto 555r drag radials, they work pretty good in the rain as well if you just remember they are on and dont do anything crazy. 10,000 miles is about the best you will get out of them depending on how many burnouts you do :)

They claim to have the widest contact patch of any drag radial

If it was me and to do it over again (which I will be shortly because of my purchase)

    M/T ET drags
Just get a set of slicks for the track on another set of rims. And a couple bike locks and lock your daily drive rims and tires up to a light pole at the track if you can't throw them in one of your buddies rigs or trucks while at track.
    EQUALS best 60ft times

    M/T ET Streets

On another set of rims and you live relitively close to your track. Bolt them on at home, drive to track, when get home switch rims and tires.
    next best 60ft

    M/T et street Radial

Good traction, decent 60fts, dont last to long on street I'm at about 8,000 miles now and time to start looking again. NO fun in rain!!!! In my opinion I'm just wasting money, no need for this traction on the street (I DO NOT AND WILL NOT STREET RACE). SOme decent street tires are perfect for street and not scared to drive in the rain

    OK 60ft times

    Nitto 555r's
    (friends use them)
Decent mileage 10-12,000, not as scary in the rain, but not as good as M/T in 60 ft time, need to make sure to heat them up real good before the line.

I live pretty close to track, and alot of times go to track alone. So I will be buying the ET streets and another set of rims here shortly and putting my street tires back on. That way I can just switch rims and tires at home, drive to the track and run, and swap rims and tires when home again. Works out the best for me and don't haqve to worry about locking rims up or changing them at the track.

The mustang guys ESP with t-5 trannys praise this tire and its abilty to take the shock on a good 60ft time.

Well theres my long winded 2 cents.................. Or is it 4 cents for length??? LOL

    great information . . .
I'm gonna go with getting an extra set of rims with probably ET streets and drive them on the day of the race. Should I be worried about anything breaking on the car if I hook up better?

we haven't installed cal-tracs yet, debating on building our own or just buying one. Bryant built his and they look pretty sweet.

I'm running the M/T drag radials pictured below. Got them from Summit. Got about 3K miles on them now with about 25-25 passes at the track. I honestly can't say they look worn at all. I'll absolutely buy another set once I go through these. Oh, broke the rear end once and one axle so far. They hook like crazy with just a mild burnout. And I've driven them in the rain more than once. The only time I felt anything bad was when I was driving through an intersection doing about 40 and I felt the tires slide a bit. I'm pretty sure there must have been a little oil or something on the road. It had just started raining. And I was running a spool with 4:30 gears. The tires are 275 60/15's on 15X8 wheels. I'm also running Cal-Tracs.

that's a nice tire. I have 255/60/15 right now in the rear. Should I stick with that size?

You sure that's not a ET Street? the drag radials don't have thread pattern I thought.

Thats an et street radial tire. I have same thing.

The E/T streets are the "cheater slick style".

Another easy way is the e/t street radials sizes are like street tire sizing example 275/60/15, the e/t street (NON RADIAL) are like slick sizing. example 28x10x15

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
My buddie had the same engine setup as you in his Foxbody, except that he was fuel injected. But it was a 71/72 longblock with a 150 shot. And he ran 12.98 on his 28x11.5 ET streets he would drive on them from riverside to fontana with no problems. :drive:
He even drove them to and from work every day, but he was a little crazy :D
