Since my C4 died yesterday, I was thinking that I would get a lot less Tranny fluid on the drive way and in my wifes azaliers if I were to un-hook a cooling line and pump as much as I can into a bucket. There will still be some spillage but a lot less i think. Anyone ever had any experience doing this?

i just take a large oil pan like you buy at walmart and get one of the large metal tins that go under the car to collect any that splashes out. oh, and when you put it back in install a drain plug. easier to drain next time. :)

I do a variation of what Don does. I get the tranny fluid out by drilling a 1/4" hole in the driver side rear corner and letting it run in the pan. Then when the pan comes off I enlarge the hole to 3/8", weld a 7/16 fine thread nut over the hole and plug it with a bolt and copper brake line washer. It's a little extra work, but boy is it easy next time you have to drain the trans.

I stoped ny Autozaon this AM
$15 for a drain plug and it's not in stock.

I stopped at O'rielly this evening, $5 and in stock. Why do you suppose the discrepancy?
