can anyone tell me what door latch (the inside mechanism attached to the door handle) from other fords are interchangeable with a 73 Mav?? would one from a 72 mustang work??
I do know some of the Mustang latches look very similar but Maverick latches are very plentiful. Is there some reason you want to try a Mustang one? There are plenty of guys here that can supply you with a good latch...including myself.
no reason other than i have easy access to a mustang latch at the moment. so i just thought i'de ask if it would work. but yeah, if i can get a maverick specific one from you, that would be great.
Is there something wrong with the one you have? These parts rarely go bad other than an occasional broken spring. What kind of problem are you having with yours?
Well, It Doesn't Seem To Open From The Outside. It Opens From The Inside At Least, Not Very Smoothly As I Have To Pull The Handle Pretty Hard, But It Does Open. I've Replaced The Outside Door Handle With No Change. From What I Can See After Removing The Interior Door Panel, Pushing The Button From The Outside Handle Doesn't Engage The Latch At All. It'll Push That Small Metal Panel Thing On The Inside And The Rod Attached To It Goes Down Only A Little But, But From What I Can See, Nothing Else Moves. I Can See The Spring And Comparing With The Working Passenger Side, I've Noticed It Doesn't Move All That Much Either When Trying To Open From The Outside. Not Sure If This Has Anytying To Do With It, But The Driver Side Hinges Also Seem To Need Replacing As The Door Tilts Down About An Inch Or So When Open All The Way. To Close The Door, I Have To Lift Door Up And Guide It In The Right Spot To Close It. Regardless, It Just Doesn't Want To Open From The Outside..
Okay, well, the 1st thing you definitely need is either hinges or hinge pins and bushings. You've got to get the door to open without dropping. Try opening the door about 6 inches and grab it by the handle and see how far you can lift the door up and down. I'm guessing it's going to move quite a bit. There should be "NO" movement if your hinge bushings are good. When you open the door, you don't want it to drop "ANY". Solve this problem before you go any further. Try spraying some type of litheum grease or equivalent on the latch assy if it does not seem to be operating properly. I seriously doubt your latch is causing any of this problem.
yeah, that's been next on the list anyway. already got a pair of hinges ready to go on so i'll get that done and see what happens. thanks for the info.
