Not a question but a report. At the roundup, I got some nice black headrests from Craig. As I am restoring a sprint, I needed to dye them white. Some say it couldn't be done but these SEM dyes are amazing. I have to go back and get the underside of them but so far they are looking very nice. The surface feels like they did originally so I am pretty confident that it won't flake off. So again the moral of the story is, SEM products rock and stay far, far away from rainbow industries.
You cant go wrong with SEM...Head rest looks good. Keep going like this and your gonna be done with your Sprint before I get paint on my mav project!!!
Wow...I can't believe that used to be black. How many coats did it take to make it white? I see the stock number is still written on the part: 72j That means it came off of this car: That was probably the ONLY good part of the interior. It was really trashed!!
Are bench seat headrests worth saving? I'm getting ready to trash one black and one beige bench seat.
Same as a 2-door bench seat headrest. The foam ones (like pictured) are kind of hard to find as they were very prone to cracking.
Thanks guys. It took 2-3 coats to cover but I need to touch up a few spots. I was already painting the sunvisor clip and the headliner clips so I decided to see if it would work. My original ones were cracked all the way around so I am glad that Craig saved these headrests. Not sure how I feel about them coming off a 4-door though. I've decided that I am going to do my interior as close to original as I can. Just to be different from the other restored sprints on the site. Ted
Don't ask me....I save everything!! Probably not worth saving the sewn kind. Don't think I have ever sold any of those. Somebody might want them to replace their foam ones though.
It will eventually rub off. It's not very expensive to have them re-covered in white vinyl (or any other color). Really should just do it right.
Maybe, but honestly I won't be driving it all that much and my head will never touch the headrest anyways. It's all for show anyways.
What was the part number for the Sem white? I need to start dyeing pcs for my Sprint project and does it match the factory white. I am A fan of the SEM paints just need the part number for the blue and the white? Thanks Chris
I ordered it from NPD. The blue is VP-16049 and the white is VP-15855. The white looks dead on. The blue might be a shade darker but it is hard to tell with everything faded.
