I fried my regulator harness on my 73 Maverick (250 ci) a while back (battery cables backwards) and based upon what I have read on this subject, this will probably save me some headache and clean up the engine bay up a bit. Basically I suck at wiring and I want to fix my car as simple as possible becuase it has been sitting for like three months because I can't figure out this wiring crap. What I am looking for is the following: What alternator is a direct bolt-on and simple one wire rig (looking for as inexpensive as possible but will drop some coin on one that installs easier but I want new versus junk yard pull)? What is the part number, amperage, brand name for this alternator (the car is a daily driver so function is more important than power or show)? What tools/items are nesessary to install this (wires, fusible link, hardware, etc)? What does a fusible link look like as I am told my wiring woes may be related to this as well (the auto shop doesn't have a specific match in their computer but they told me they are generally the same as long as i get the right type)? Any pictures of one wire alternator set-ups? Wiring diagrams for this setup? On a separate note the eyelet fell off of the top of the wires that lead to my starter solenoid after my battery incident. Are these discarded as part of this process or will i need to replace those? Thanks all (I just want to drive my dang car)! Dan
Do a search for 1-wire and you will get all kinds of suggestions, part numbers, etc. You can go as cheap as $40 for a GM 63A 1-wire swap from Napa, to 200+A for big bucks. I just sunk $250 into a 130A 3G alternator last week, but not finished hooking it up. There is a little more stuff to install on mine, since I am also adding a serpentine belt setup.
