In a previous thread I stated I had a stutter/miss that I believed was an electrical issue. After checking all electrical (and dropping the pan to get my oil pump shaft ) I've determined its not electrical. Looking at the carb and listening really closely to it I think its a carb issue. Sounds and looks like its not getting smooth fuel delivery past idle to about 1/3 throttle, then it smooths out. My question is should just buying a basic rebuild kit and rebuilding it solve this, or is it something more complex? I've never done this before, but I've got a very good rebuild/tuning book for Carter/Edelbrock carbs. Just looking for a heads up of what I should expect to replace to remedy the problem.
Yep, that took care of it. There was about 1/4 teaspoon of what looked like a furball at the end of the inlet circuit. I'm assuming a bunch of varnished fuel that broke loose after sitting for awhile and/or somebody was running it without a filter for awhile. It was nasty. Fired it up and it purrs quite nicely now. Accelerates way smoother all the way through the range and idles smoother/lower as well. Now I just need a replacement clutch cable (melted mine) and I'll be on the road.
