Ignition Conversion Woes ( Second Edition) Today, I installed a duraspark 2 from a 79 Fairmont onto my Comet 250/6 CID. All hardware came from the donor car, including distributor, module, coil and wiring. Apparently the application on the donor car was for high altitude and the module has yellow grommets and an extra 3 wire connector that was not connected to anything. The other 6 wires were exactly as all the diagrams show. (orange black purple green(Red white). When I completed the installation, the car started and ran fine. I figured that at that age however, I might want to replace the module so as to prevent future failure of the system, so I drove it down to Autozone and picked up a new wells module with the blue grommet. Went home and installed it and the blasted thing wouldnt start. Took that module back and had it tested( test was fine) but being the sort that likes to prevent repeats, I went ahead and swapped it out for a new one with the yellow grommets and the 3 xtra wires like the original module anyway. Took that one home and installed it. Blasted thing would not fire a lick. Hooked the old module back up (which I failed to mention is Borg-Warner) and the dang thing fired right up!!!! Is it just my imagination here or is there a monkey in the woodpile or what!! Keep in mind that I still have the original plugs installed with the little gap. Anyone feeling generous with wisdom feel free to email me at phflimflam@riffle.net
Ron, there are many threads on this subject at the Ford Six Performance website. I know there is discussion on the different colored grommets. I think the blue version is the one everyone recommends; the other one is a California or high altitude version (or something like that). Jack's article calls the blue one the "49 state module." Try: http://fordsix.com/forums/ Also, check out Jack Collins' website (Mustang Six), there's a whole article on the conversion. http://home.cfl.rr.com/mustangsix/ Not sure why you sent the Pertronix back, the one I installed a couple months ago works fine. My motor is a 250 six as well. Good luck. Tom
