72 I6 200. Looking to get an EI to replace my points so I dont have to worry about points and gapping, etc. My question is what all will I need? Ive seen the pertronix thing for the dist but i think it mentions something about a different coil possibly being needed. Is there any junkyard options for a different coil?

Since it's not a race car, just use a Pertronix 1, it'll work fine with everything else.

ok well i figured i may replace my coil too. I think i can get a EI and Coil for $130 give or take. If I wanted to change my distributor what would be a good way to go? Ive heard the stock ones are usually rebuilt ones with crappy bushings and such and are a waste.

Hey borjawil, I just recently replace my points/cond with the Pertronix 1 in my '74 I6 200. I kept the original dist and coil. Works great, nice and smooth.

What part number is yours? Its hard to figure out what EI I need from pertronix. I think I need #1261 but not sure on that.

The Duraspark is far superior than Pertronix and not really that hard to wire up. Don't let the many wires scare you because they plug into each other. One switched (run side) 12v wire to the box and one wire from the box to the coil. If you want to run the white wire to the starter solenoid you can but it works fine without the white wire hooked up

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Got a whole duraspark setup with Accel coil at the junkyard for $10.

Distributor and ignition box from a 74 maverick 200ci, and a yellow super stock coil off some neon. That's all I needed for the conversion.

Not a single issue in the 4+ years I've had it.
