Wondering if anyone out there has a mild street Maverick that can offer some suggestions for a budget minded 302 build. Plan on using an 80 block with stock bore.Any advice on the rest?
    Thanks , Darrel :D

    this is my setup...

79 granada block bored .040 (dont bore over .030.. lesson learned....gets a little hot)
    9.5:1 hypereutectic flat top pistons
xtreme energy comp cam .477 int .484 exh lift
edelbrock performer 289 intake (dont use this one... its limited)
edelbrock 600 cfm carb (works great, just needs to be richened a little )
heads were 75 f100 302 heads... i got a 4 angle valve job and i home ported them.. get different heads for better power
    Complete MSD ignition system

the engine kit was $650.. cam $119...
engine work was $550 round abouts
msd igntion complete system at summit is 600 or less

and a few little things here and there..

the best time i had was a 14.5 at 95mph.. with 2.89 gears.. working on getting a set of 3.45 gears..

To hop up a stock 302 on a budget...I would install a late '70's stock 351 Windsor camshaft,4 bbl. cylinder heads.a factory 2 bbl or aftermaket carb.If you go with a 4bbl. you'll have to go with a 302 intake....the Windsor is much wider.Equip the motor with a open air breather and a free flowing exhaust system. The Dura-spark ignition seems to fair pretty good, but you be the judge and dress up the motor to your budget.....

I was told that just a Holley 600 & a intake will really pep it up. This is a good start.

(y)Sounds good Streetrod! Anyone familiar with putting 289 heads on a 302? I understand this will up the compression. But I also know that anytime you gain one thing you sacrifice something else! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Darrel
