i have a inline 6 250, i was just doing fine driving using regular gas, one of my buddies whom supposed to work on cars insisted that i use 93 octane. After i put the 93 octane in my car it starts up then dies out, sometimes it putters and putters more if i push on the gas then it dies out. Could this be the gas or a cloged fuel filter?

If you didn't have a running problem before, I'd say you might have gotten bad gas. I also don't know why you would need 93 octane on a stock compression 250ci 6 cyl. I would drain it (or at least get a sample) to see if maybe it's full of water or smells bad.

You only need higher octane for higher compression ratios, forced induction, aggressive timing curves, etc. Almost all stock engines (non HiPo) will run on regular unleaded.

matter of fact, i let my friend use my gas tank which he had left out for the past month it rained alot since then, i poored gas into the gas can which had a lot of water in it. What would be the best method? Drain the entire tank?

Should he also drain his carb bowl? I'm not too familiar with the 250ci carb setup.

drain the tank, clean and install. put new reg. gas in tank. take the fuel line loose from carb. put a hose on the line and run into a container. pull col wire and crank the motor over untill fresh gas comes out the hose.remove carb. and pour old gas out, install carb with new filter. replace coil wire and go for a short drive. in returning check everywhere for leaks...none...:drive:
