Here are a few pics of my engine and my helpers. I'm getting close to firing her up. It's been about a 1 year project of body work, new roof, paint, roll cage, subframe connectors, interior work, rebuilding tranny, and rebuilding engine. I'm getting really excited, but really nervous too. My goal was to race in the FFW in Fontana, but that is not looking realistic, but that's OK, there's PSCA races coming up. It won't be a consistant racer anyway until I fix the suspension and do some tuning. The engine is a 331 with forged Scat internals, Probe pistons, AFR 205 heads, Probe main girdle & windage tray, 12.8:1 compression, victor jr. "jet hot" coated intake, Quickfuel 750 race carb, 6901 headers (for now), solid roller "racing" cam, and MSD 6AL ignition. I took everything slowly to make sure I did each step correctly, so I had quite a lot of minor setbacks, but hopefully my patience and research will pay off.
Looks great, Eric. You got some fine looking helpers too! I was reminded of the frustration I went through trying to fab a rear deep-sump oil pan when I saw that you too went front-sump (I have the same one you do now). That combo sounds like it's gonna be wicked! 205's with 12.8:1 compression! Better hold on during your maiden trek down the track! Gluck
looks like a great motor. i know it will run well. the help you have looks like they have a lot of experience between them. i had thought about ffw in fontana, but it's the weekend before our et finals here in phoenix. last year i blew the tranny the friday night before leaving for bakersfield the following tuesday. don't want to go through that again. i'll be at the one oct. 28&29 in phoenix.
Cute helpers! I have one myself...they work for cookies and milk, can't beat that! It'll be ready for the meet in Reno next year!
Okibono: The oil pan is a Milodon MIL-30925 front sump. I dropped the engine in today and it fit perfectly just behind the sway bar and just in between some frame parts. By the way, I put the engine+tranny in together and with a load lever it was a piece of cake all by myself. Anyone know which way the kickdown lever points, up or down? I could have sworn that when I rebuilt the tranny that it would not go in pointing down, but now it hits the tunnel so maybe it is supposed to point down. Oh well, I guess I'll just cut it because I don't need it anyways. Don: Good luck at FFW. I have to figure a way to go out there and watch or maybe even race. Phoenix isn't far away.
MavMike: Where you at in Denver? I grew up in Lakewood and I still have family there. I practically lived at Bandimere when I lived in CO.
With that tall intake I'm not surprised the kickdown is hitting the tunnel. I had to re-bend mine until it would actuate all the way without hitting anything. Then I put a carb spacer on and it really screwed things up. It is back off now.
Sounds like one potent motor. Good looks and power to back it up. Life is good. KIds look great too. Enjoy them, they grow up too fast.
Eric it's lookin great and it looks like your pit crew is having fun too. That setup is gonna be a blast to drive
yeah don't you love how that thing fits! too bad i had to find out the hard way buy having that as my second pan. but way cool! wow vic jr huh! sounds like your gonna be buzzing some crazy rpms! 12.8:1 wow! gas $$$ ain't any object to ya huh? kick down? what you need a kick down for? but looks good when you plan on having it running?
Do I need some special gas or somethin I guess I'll have to go with Shell instead of Arco Kick down lever is gone I don't know if this thing will ever run, it's been kind of a PITA lately. It may be time to bring it to a professional.
