Hello, I have a '71 Maverick, with a 200 engine. I'm thinking of replacing the E-M gasket since I've already replaced the pipe flange gasket. I've seen that there are locking tab washers on the E-M bolts. What do these washers do? Wouldn't standard washers work? Or are these rated for engine heat temperatures? Should I replace the bolts too?
    Thank You!

Soak things down for 3-days with PB Blaster first...and pray you don't snap a bolt when you remove them...they break easy. Ask me how I know.

I was going to say the same thing. If it isn't leaking....I wouldn't touch it.

Excellent information, Don and Jeff! What would I call the bolts to get the higher grade ones? I'm guessing that the E-M gasket doesn't use any kind of sealer, right?
