Hey, I would like to put dual exhaust in my Mav, but there doesn't seem to be enough room on the drivers side to run it out. Is there a different gas tank that gives more room? Or can you do it with the stock one? Any pictures would be of great help.

I have 2 1/4" duals with the stock tank..

It worked on mine. They only had to customize the pipe as it came along the tank. I will try to get a picture up for you.

Thanks, I think I will re-route my fuel lines to help the situation. It looks like a tight fit. What size tube did you use?

I ran 2" and it is tight. They sometimes rattle against the spring. You can swap in a Mustang tank which will give you plenty of room for any size pipe. I wrote an article on this conversion. Click on the link below to view it.

That maybe too much fabing for me. I dont have access to a welder or bender. Maybe you should market a "KIT" for us all to use. I thought I heard of a Comet tank or something that fits without any fabing, and gives more clearance.

something you might want to consider is just dumping it at the rear axle, I had them turn it down right at the rear axle, instead of going over it on my mav. Keep in mind though, that this is very loud!

I have 2" stainless steel dual exhaust on my 77' Maverick. Due to the location of the gas tank , both pipes were run to the right of the tank and stick out the back side by side. Looks kind of funky. It's not what I really wanted but it's what I ended up with. The increase in horsepower made it worth it in the long run.

My 2 1/4" pipes fit nicely. An experienced exhaust man could customize the driver's pipe for you in a manner of minutes. There is no rattle and the exaust is not even touching anything on mine. It will work, it just takes skill.

I have Hedman headers and some 24" glasspacks with some extensions that stop just before the axel. I would like to get something a little more quite. I want to use the Mav for my daily. Any suggestions on mufflers. I have been lookin at the Dynomax ultra flow, Jegs has them for 59.99, but how do they sound?

    Pipe size

Well I have a friend working at a muffler shop, he ran 2 1/2" duals alongside my driveshaft to the rear. I have dual flowmasters at the rear and from there it gets funky, but the point is that I was able to run dual 2 1/2" pipe down the tunnel without losing any ground clearance. One thing I DID have to do: the parking brake pivot, the one coming from the interior that splits the pressure to both sides, well it was hitting my pipe, so I cut off about 1/2" off the end, and redrilled the spring mount about that same distance closer to the drivers side. Thats a minimal modification to fit dual 2 1/2" down the center. I just need to get the car on a lift so I can take pictures.

Let me know when you get the pics, I would like to see them. This Saturday I am going to take it to a Muffler shop, and get an estimate.

What muffler layout did some of you use? Will a center inlet and an offset outlet work? Or would you use an offset inlet(close to driveline) with an center outlet?

I have offset inlets and center outlets. This seems to work the best to be able to get them up as far as possible. This is also the combo that the muffler shop picked also. Hope this helps.

Thats what we used, thats what the shop had. the duals that were alrealdy on the car, 2" used center in center out. You can make whatever you got work, just need a muffler guy that will work with you.
