Hi guys, as a temp fix for a slight rub with my rear tires I thought
about using wheel spacers and extended studs. Anyone know what
stud I should get and if the knurl is .625 dia for a Ford? My local auto
parts store isn't too helpful. Spacers are about 3/8 thick. Thanks, Don

Knock one of the studs out of your axle. Use a micron gauge to measure the knurl or take it with you to the auto parts store and let them size it up. Remember to add 3/8" on the length to allow for your spacer.

    Pick up some studs.

Grabbed some studs last night. Got the old ones out and then
realized I didn't have a std lug nut to use to pull them into the
axle flange. Stopping after work to grab some std lug nuts and
washers. Of course the weather is changing here from the low
70's into the low 40's...Ohio is awesome!

    Studs Are In

Well gang, the studs are in and worked great. If anyone needs the
part number, I used the 98249 stud from Auto Zone. Only problem
I had was my son cross threaded one of the lug nuts and I ended
up breaking it off removing it. So out came the hammer and we thru
another stud in and this time I watched him as he put the lugs back on.

Good idea...posting the part number. I'm sure someone else will be able to use the info sometime.

you know....the last time i went to the drag strip they wanted me to have studs that stuck out past the nuts at least 1/2". they said it was a NHRA rule....but i have never heard it before.... so before i go back i need to change the studs....i will do it on the used rear end i got...

the question i have is hoow do you get the used studs out..i tried hitting them with a hammer but the arent budging...ideas?? pullers? cant get access to the back side without taking the brake stuff off...

I easily beat them out with a hammer. Could be another way,
    but that worked for me.

Hey Don, How long are 98249 studs. I got some from ARP but they are 3 inches long. I can't get them in without slidding the axle out a little.

That's a good question. I didn't actually measure the length
before putting them in. The stock studs are very short and
these were at least 3x longer. They barely fit in behind the
axle flange when I installed them. I rotated the flange around
to the 3 o'clock position and slipped it in using the open space
    there. Hope that helps.

Thanks...I need to look in to that. I got some made by ARP but they are 3.5 inches long & I haven't put them in because I will have to slide the axle out a little to get clearance.
