I have a 1974 comet gt with the slotted mag wheels which I beleive are the factory rims. does anybody know what brand they are so I can get the correct center caps. they were missing when I purchased the car.

The correct center caps screw into the center of the mag wheels. I just happen to have a set of Comet GT center caps. Let me know if interested. I'll send pictures. Do your wheels have the black stripe around the outside edge of the wheel? Post a picture of a wheel...

    center caps

I purchased a set of center caps like the ones you posted but they weren't correct! so I must not have factory wheels. They must be an after market brand. thanks for the pictures! any idea what brands made aluminum slots?

Evereryone made aluminum slots. ET mags, Western Wheel, Ansen are just three I can recall offhand. I think both ET and Ansens had screwed on caps.

They should have the black stripe if they are from the factory. If they were resurfaced at some point in time the black stripe may have been removed. Mine have the stripe.

Where does a guy get those Mercury decals? I would love some for my new center caps.

    center caps

the screw holes in the cap were off by a half inch or so. They didn't line up with the rim.

My info. I have a 74 Comet GT (since new) and came with slots from the factory. Yes, everyone is correct with the black strip around the rim area (but years of polishing has eliminated the strip). I will be looking for larger slots soon. But need to do the research to find how large I can go without all the fuss concerning rubbing the sides. Also, I have all my center caps but the plastic Mercury emblems are either missing or cracked/crazed. I have not found a replacement for the center caps or emblems at this time but do look for them at swap meets.

I bought them from S Roberts on this board. It's been awhile since I got them. I think someone else is now doing the emblems. Craig Selvey maybe.... Someone will chime in...
