went to ffw in phoenix this weekend. on friday i won the gallop for the gold. there were 31 cars in it at $10 apiece. i got half or $155. they had cars from california finishing up there race that got rained out. so this put us quite a bit behind schedule. by the evening the track got cold and at 7:30 they called the race. there were 9 of us left in so we split the $900 purse and got $100 apiece. sunday i made 2 time runs in the am. ran 12.075 and 12.074. fastest i,ve gone so far. ran first round ran a 12.10 and won. 2nd round i went red by .005 but i ran it out and had a 12.05. weighed the car at the track scales, 2730 pounds. last time i weighed it was 2600 so the roll bars and frame connectors and a few other parts added 130 pounds. i guess if i hadn't put the weight in i'd have been in the 11's. i was at the car show and looking at a really nice 71 grabber when a guy comes up to me and asks if it was mine. i said "i wish". we talked for a couple of minutes about mavericks. lo and behold it was jeremy from corona, calif. great to meat him and his cousin there. really nice guy. they took some pictures and said they would try to post them by monday. all in all agood weekend with lots of other ford people.
Sounds like fun Don...FFW's are always a good time...quite a coincidence meeting someone else from the board by chance.
Congrats on the win! Is the Gallop for Gold a bracket race? Also, I went to a race in Phoenix about 2 years ago and I thought it was an NMRA race but maybe it was a ffw race? I think Billy Glidden was there. If it is NMRA do you know when and where its at? -Erick
erik was that at speedworld or firebird. ffw just started last year in the west, but i think nmra might of had a race at speedworld. the gallop for the gold is where you pay $10 and whoever is closest to there dial in gets 1/2 the money.
Great numbers, Don and congrats! I forsee 11's in your near future (and then 10.5's and then 10's and then 9.5's and then....).
Don, I do not believe I have every seen a pic of your car.....do you have any? Always luv pics.........sounds like you got a runner on your hands....congrats!
Don, I talked to my brother who is a big NMRA fan. He was the only reason I was there at that time (I didn't even know what NMRA was). He drove from CO and I drove from CA and we met for the race. He said it was an NMRA race at Speedworld, but they don't go there anymore because FFW goes there instead. I was just curious because I'm getting into the FFW and NMRA races. They are awesome and I want to go to more. It would be really cool to race in one too. -Erick
FFW was a blast. I drove with my brother and wife/kid 345 miles one way. Sadly, I had no car to race this time around, but it was fun watching. I came hoping to run into some mustang friends and even better, met Don. What a pleasure. His car sounds really awesome, and runs like a bat out of hell. I was really pleased with the maverick showing at FFW. I've got tons of pics of all the maverick's there, including a ten second one, Don's mav and several others. Pictures are in my brothers camera, whoops. I'll try and get them up before the end of the week.
sorry jeremy, i said cousin. i knew it was your brother. mav 5946, i've never figured out how to post the pics yet. when i do watch out.
