I am just curious, but when did they produce the open tray fiberglass lower dash? I recently got that and a bunch of awesome parts from my friend. Was it a 69 1/2 option or also in later years? It is a nice piece though, much sturdier than the plastic ones!
they guys you can completely trust on this will surely chime in towards the end of the day.. but I will get you started with an "I THINK".. they were offered up through at least the 1972 Models.. possibly 1973 as well.
I guess I assumed that they were all fiberglass of some type or another and the OP was asking about the tray design itself.. and not the actual composition differences between the years that came with trays. Is the one in my '71 Comet made of plastic instead of fiberglass?
The open dash tray was available from 69 to 73 (early months stopped around February I believe). But they had two different types as far as I know. The Fiberglass and a plastic composite one. The fiberglass one is much sturdier and slightly heavier, but is a MUCH better quality by far. I had just never seen one before so I figured it was an early year thing. But yes I was asking about composition, but I enjoy all the input!
I like Craig have only found them on the 69 1/2, there are actually three types there is a padded version as well that I have only found on early 73s but may have been on earlier models
Thanks guys, that's what I thought. But it's exactly as the photo shows, they are very similar but have a few differences. Also by padded do you mean the LDO padded bar that goes across the tray? Actually just got one of those too off a parts car!
I have been curious for awhile but what was the purpose of the padded bar? I put it on my car because I thought it looked interesting. But was there an actual reason for it?
