TurboFourMav submitted a new car to the Garage :

First Daily Driver

Its funny looking back now. I remember riding over to what seemed like a random stranger's house at the time to pick up this car. I was only just breaking the age of 14. My dad had struck a deal with this guy, in exchange for a carburetor we would take what was a maverick in very desperate need of repair. This is a car i will never sell, and hopefully will be passed down through generations.

This car began in stages:

First stage: The first stage was the funnest and most innocent of all of the stages. This was when I spent every single day of my teenage life wrenching away at this car in hopes to get her road worthy by my 16th birthday. I had absolutely no clue what i was doing but at the end of the day i was willing to learn. It began with a scrap pile thrown together 302. When I mean scrap i mean literal scrap. Whatever i could find around my dad's speed shop is what got bolted onto this worn out rotating assembly. Its amazing what ford blue paint does to an engine block and shiny aluminum valve covers. In this stage, I had not a single care. Once i finally got the car on the road with an extremely over sized 750cc carb and a reverse manual valve bodied C4, i drove this 8 mile per gallon beast for my most of my entire high-school career. Claiming that I could out run any Chevy that dare line up against me, when in reality I could barely outrun the huge smoke cloud that seemed to follow the car everywhere i went. But at the end of it all, this was still what i believe to be the funnest and best stage of this car's life.

Second Stage: The second stage was full of regret and frustration. I had this great brainstorm idea once I hit my senior year that the maverick just was not fast enough. This was consumed with building a low compression 351W and cramming it in the maverick. I swore up and down that i was going to turbo this thing like no tomorrow (what was i thinking). After spending almost every dollar i could scrape together to me seemed like the most narly motor on this planet I was defeated by a crappy machine shop. Which had caused this 351W to spin a bearing the first month on the rode.

Third Stage: This is the most recent and to some the worst. After the motor locked up while I was unfortunately trying to impress a potential girlfriend (things did not work out) I yanked the 351W out rebuilt and machined it myself and through it into a 1990 fox. Well you won't be the first, there was a car here years back with a turbo 2.3. That car was even featured in a magazine at one point. Last I heard it had a turbo charged 460 in it! Keep us posted on the build, it's always cool to see one that isn't like the rest.

And let's not forget about the spectre maverick either. Might not be my exact cup of tea, especially the sound of having too few cylinders, but I do seriously love me some good old fashioned hot roddery.

Only things I would change on that car would be the front fender flares, the cowl hood and the rear spoiler.

Hey guys, so i have been deadset on the idea of a 4cyl turbo for the car however i have completely changed my mind. I just couldnt get over the fact that it would never sound like it should and I want actually power out of the car. So im opting to going to a coyote swap. I am in the process of stripping the engine bay and installing an AJE Colt 65 front suspension as well as their shock towers for the maverick. I plan to keep everyone up to date on the build. Where would the best place to start this thread be?

I also have a Chilton repair manual for the maverick/comet for 1972-1974 if anyone needs something looked up i can happily do that and upload an image of PDF for people to read
