Wow, what a small world this is! Those Mavericks are built about 2 miles from where I live and a part of the group building them is a son of a good friend of mine in the statewide Cougar club. Rob, the son, and my son, Jason, are the same age and we have known each other since 1997. Rob earned an engineering degree and went to work with these folks a couple of years ago to develop this car/ plane idea. He has been active in robotics since he was a young boy and very talented in that area. They work out of a small airport nearby. We have all been pulling for the company to make it big. Hope this doesn't set them back or put them out of business.

Searching the web, I found this.
Pinto with a Cessna Skymaster rear bolted onto it. The builder also died in test flights - dated 1973

Yup, the infamous Mizar. Project sponsored by Galpin Ford. Over on the Pinto boards, a guy named Pintony found the original Pinto used in the glamour shots in the back lot of Galpin Ford and is restoring it. There is even a film on you-tube about it made in 1973. Made several flight before the crash. Supposedly used plain 'ol sheet metal screws for the wing struts that pulled out. Both pilots were 40 at the time. Very interesting project.
