The local school career center is going to paint my drag car for 100.00 plus materials. The teacher made a list of everything they'll need and told me where to get it. The paint store is even giving me the schools discount. The teacher told me the only paint they will use is a Chroma Base. What is a chroma base paint? Is that a brand thing or something? FYI. This is the color scheme we're doing. If I have the paint codes right for '70, "W" Yellow & "U" Orange. Fiberglass grabber hood will have a Harwood Closed Back Tri Aero Mini Scoop.

are your stripes orange with red pin stripes? If so I have a 72 grabber that was that color, don't know if the codes would be the same or not, I have never seen another with this color, rare or just unpopular?

Chroma base is a Dupont brand of base coat/clear coat, It is a good quality paint. I would say that he will only use this paint because if they're prepping kids for the real world this would be the type of paint found in most body shops. Gone are the days of regular acrylic enamels and laquers in the production body shops. Really these paints have UV protectant in their clears and you should be very happy with this type of paint.

By the way, I like your color selection!:D

The orange stripes will be outlined with red. All painted. Can't find / buy that stripe combo in tape anymore. So "Chroma" is just a brand / name for Dupont. Thanks for the info. I'll post before and after pictures in a few weeks. The reason for the odd color / graphic combo, that was first car / maverick. Never really got over loosing that one.

My yellow '72 Grabber was originally the yellow with the orange and red stripes. The code is just "6E" (medium bright yellow) on the door jam. Now it is just yellow with a few spots of peeling paint revealing the orange on the tail light panel. The stripes wrapped the doors so they are visible when opened.

Knew about Graphics Express but not the other one. I did contact them about custom colors. They will do it, but I couldn't afford them. I've gotten a black set for my red grabber so all will be original when it's finished. Biggest project on that car is a complete cowl replacement.

I'm gonna be needing a set of 2-color 71 reflective stripes for my Grabber. I notice that Graphic-Express are $100 more than Stencils and stripes but are Ford Licensed.

The 1971 Stripe has the word Grabber as part of the stripe where as 1972 Stripes it is just cut-out. Does anyone have any experience of the quality of the 71 Reflective stripes from either of these companies?

    Thanks ..

Since your busy with the re-modeling project and won't be able to come over for a visit, at least for a while, here's my "shop".
