I've got a '70 gas tank that I just removed from my Mav with a basketball sized depression in the top. Looks like somebody sat something too heavy on it. Its not a bad dent, no creases or anything, just pushed in. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it out. My thoughts so far are to either remove the sender and try and push/tap it out with a dowel, or see if maybe a body shop can slide one of their airbag things in there and push it out. Any thoughts/ideas?

I like it. So redneck it just might work. What was really redneck was how I removed it. Somebody put it in with a gasket or sealant of some sort in addition to all the screws. It wouldn't budge so I put one of my wheels (with tire) on a jack and jacked it up underneath the tank. The adhesive was tight enough to support the rear of the car and lift it off the jack stands, so with a little pressure on it I started shooting starter fluid around the edges and it popped right out.
Hahaha! I love it! I have a baseball sized dent in the bottom of my gas tank and I think I'm gonna try the JB WELD trick!
compressed air ,filling the tank with air building pressure should push the dent out as long as it has no sharp creases
I thought about that as well. You would just have to be able to seal up the tank with something that wouldn't give out before the dent popped. The freezer idea is cool, but who owns a freezer that big? Gonna go try the bolt thing right now.
