    I am trying to fix the rust holes in the floor of my 73 maverick. Does anyone know what gauge of steel is used for the floor?

    I just measured my floor (where the hole is for my shifter) and it came out 0.0635" or 16 gauge..........................but this equates to galvanized 16 gauge steel (0.0598" for std steel), 18 gauge is 0.0478" for standard steel and 0.0516" for galvanized.
    But my floors are painted and that could account for the 0.0037" difference between standard steel and galvanized.........in my case anyway.

    Ok thanks a lot guys. And also does anyone know if the sheet metal will EVER be reproduced??? I know there has been a lot of discussion about this but does anyone have any facts?

    If you are welding in flat sheet metal, stay away from Galvanized, it'll make you sick.

    If I had to bet money (which is what we are asking a manufacturer to do by reproducing floorboards) I would say they will NEVER be made.

    Craig is right.......................Since I have been looking for another Maverick/Comet to make into a daily driver I have talked with a few friends that do tooling for some of the bigger Mustang vendors...........and their question was how many thousands of Mavericks were made and would someone be willing to spend;

    $500,000 for a floor tool
    $250,000 for each front fender tool
    $400,000 for each quarter tool
    or maybe someone could buy them from Ford..........if they were still around and even then they would probably have to be redone.

    I doubt there would be anyway for someone to make any profit on selling sheetmetal parts for the Maverick unless the prices were $$$$.....IMHO

    Frank hit the nail on the head

    I repaired all of my floor issues but then went to the root cause of my floor rot and repaired the cowl vents - could also be the windshield seal :thumbs2:

    Luckily there are only 2 holes and they are both at the front of the footwells. We know there are no leaks in the car and it is a minnesota car so that explains a lot of the rust issues. Minnesota Car = Minnesota Rust

    Repro floor pans

    Period perfect parts group has been saying for a while (a couple of years) that they would soon carry repro floor pans specifically for maverick/comet, but they have yet to come through. I wound up ordering mustang pans and fender apron for under my rotted out battery tray from rock auto. Of course they're cheap Chinese stamped parts - they've got a LOT of wrinkles from being stamped, but I think with some cutting and trimming and hammer and dolly work I can make them halfway presentable

    Yea hopefully the guys at 3PG (Period Perfect Parts Group) will have them soon. I actually purchased a large piece of 16 Gauge Steel and fabricated my own. It was too much work as the hole wasn't too big. We're trying to stay away from the Chinese tin foil, so this was the best way to go for us. I know 3PG plans to have their own AMERICAN MADE :dance: products out soon, but its a little to late for me.

    Thanks for everyones help!
