Hey Guys, I'm locating parts that I am going to need when I swap in the V-8. I will be installing headers, so apparently I won't be able to utilize the column shifter. I was looking for an aftermarket shifter when it occurred to me that I already have one of the Pinto/Mustang 2 style floor shifters. I got it a few years ago to use in something, though I can't for the life of me remember what it was! My question is this...the floor shift lever on the transmission is different than the column shift lever...can I just flip the lever on the trans or do I have to get another lever? If I have to get another lever, is it still available from Ford? Does anyone by chance have the part number? If it is not available, does anyone have the dimensions off of one so that I could fabricate one? I'd just like to know before I go cutting holes in the floor!! Thanks for any help,
Maxx; if you are using a Mustang shifter, you can get a new bezel with the indicators at any Mustang resto house, and make it look like new. I am using a '67 Mustang shifter, and it looks great. A lot smaller than the Maverick. However, the Mustang handle is bent back, and presents a problem to bench seats...you can't get into low gear. Good luck,
Maxx: I also went this route but I'm using a mid-80's Mustang shifter that is cable operated. Made hooking it up a breeze. You should find dimples in the trans hump under the carpet to make it easy to see where to cut. Like Earl said, bezels are readily available. You should have no problem with this project. Sam
i have a 73 maverick, i put a Hurst promatic 2 in it. the worst part was cuting the hole in the floor. after that its cable operated as is the sweetest thing ever.
