I'm getting ready to buy a flywheel for my T-5 swap. Are there any specs I need to pay attention to other than tooth count and imbalance? I know I need a 164 tooth 28oz imbalance flywheel. Looking on ebay there are a few listed for 351 truck applications, so I just wanted to make sure they will work behind a 302 w/ T-5. Thanks.
Yep. I've got the bellhousing from the 3.8L Mustang the T-5 came from. Starter won't engage a 157 tooth.
On a 3.8 no less? Would be a whole lot easier just to get an old 157-tooth bell and use an adaptor to mate the T5.
Have you priced one of those adapters lately ? They go for more more than a bellhousing does Last time I looked at one it was something like $150.
Yeah, but you can use your stock clutch linkage instead of a goofy cable that requires pedal mods or messing with hydraulics ($$$). I bought my adaptor back in 1995, paid $120 for it then. Allowed everything to just bolt together using my then 25 year old Lakewood bell and stock linkage.
I don't have the mechanical linkage, nor do I want the pain of having linkage through the headers. I already have the cable setup, and it really is very little work to adapt. I have heard of people having problems with longevity using the cable, but we'll see. If it gives me too many fits I'll change over to hydraulic. Just watched a video for the adapter plate. Actually looks like a pretty good option, but when I did this swap on my old Mav I sold the mechanical linkage, and my clutch pedal is already modified for the cable, so I'll be going the cable route. Flywheel only wound up bing $90 from Jegs anyways.
