i came across a really good deal on a 9 inch, and it has a 5-4.25 bolt pattern? its 57.5 inches mounting surface to mounting surface. would it be easier to redrill the bolt pattern or buy new axles for 5-4.5?

If you're measuring the bolt pattern center-to-center, that's not how its done on 5-bolt patterns For some strange reason, 5-bolt patterns are measured from the center on one hole to the opposite edge of the adjacent hole. A 5X4.5 would measure about 4.25 center-to-center. Have no idea why its done that way.:hmmm:

You can draw a line from one stud hole to another and measure from the opposite hole in the circle to determine the pattern diameter. There were no 5 x 4.25" bolt patterned Ford 9" rears. Only patterns for a 9" were 5 x 4.5, 5 x 5 and 5 x 5.5
