okies.. i always see cans of spray paint that say ford blue. but as most of you know there seems to be two shades? one blue, the ones our mavericks came with. then another one thats a bit lighter. when did ford paint engine blocks with the lighter blue?
I think the Eastwood version of Ford Blue looks good .... Early light blue is not correct and the Dupli-color Ford blue it most Auto Parts places is more like a medium blue - very bright. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.php?attachmentid=5777
yeah that one looks like a ford blue.. but i guess if its from eastwood it better be! to late now for me but maybe i reapaint it again when the car don't start and the motor needs to come out! lol
The original color of my '73 302 was the dark blue. I like the medium Ford blue better, which is made by VHT (Krylon) and was actually sold at the Ford dealer for awhile. I think the light blue was a much older color. I'm actually going to paint my Chevy 350 medium Ford blue for my '83 Trans Am. Pretty cool huh? Painting a Chevy engine Ford blue!...
You guys are kinda right? Yes there was a pale blue on early stangs, Then the dark blue was used for years. My 66 stang and 72 Grabber were both dark blue. My 76 Stallion arrived with the light blue, not the same pale blue of older years. I have found the duplicolor to be the most correct. I have my original oil pan and waterpump stored, which were only on the car 2 years. I checked the duplicolor against them last year when I was doing some detail work. Its real close, if not a dead correct match. Dan
Here we go! Gee, I wonder if the blues were different if the cars were made in Canada or the states. Never mind. Just kidding.
Barry, you might just have a very good point. One that I hadnt thought of. As my car was built in Canada. I got to thinking last nite that my 76 Cobra II had the same engine color as my mav also. This is certainly something that needs to be intelligently addressed while consuming barley's and hopps at the Roundup. Dan
It's like the restoration purists that used to discuss the "correct" black paint that Ford applied to their lower control arms and how far out the arm it went. Then a former Ford employee who worked on the paint line said they had a barrel near the line that they dumped waste paint into. Any dark color. When it came time to paint lower control arms they just dipped them into the barrel and hung them up to dry. No specification on color or procedure.
No problem .... http://www.eastwood.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=139&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=390&iSubCat=393&iProductID=139
