While traveling to Lexington PK, MD Saturday for my grandchild's birthday I noticed that MIR was having their fal ford fest which included a swapmeet, so naturally I had to stop watch some racing and look around at the swapmeet. There were 5 Mavericks and 1 Comet racing and 1 Maverick in the car show.

Last year at the Ford race at Maple grove, I heard from many people that the MIR race is "THE RACE" to make for Fords, I couldn't make it last year, and forgot all about it this year, I am gonna try to mark it on my calendar early next year, and go.

it would nice to have a maverick mini meet nest year there

I see Gary was there w/ his green Maverick, hope you got a chance to ck it out. That is a super nice car,if my car were to run as well as his i`d be thrilled. When I saw him at Va Motorsports Park last mnth he said he plans on running at the bracket bash at MIR when they have it.He travels w/ a group of other racers that hit all the trks up in that area,he is the only one w/ a ford, the rest are Chevys.

"he is the only one w/ a ford, the rest are Chevys"

That is usually the case when you go to a non ford race. amazing the ratio of Chevys to Fords/Mopars, especially older ones.

Gary's green Maverick was one of the fastest Mavs there, he went 9.99 in the 1/4, and it looked good doing it.
It is alwasy nice to go to the track and see all of the Fords racing and the lone 68 Camaro sitting in the pits.

Gary`s car is very impressive when you see how it`s built, very simple & fast.He told me the 408 in it now is a 13 to 1 mtr, however he`s swapping it out & putting his old 10to1 mtr in it after the season is over.the other mtr is only a .10 slower & he said he`s tired of buying racing gas.

yeah, running Sunoco Blue is not cheap, but its a way of life for a 12.5to1 cast iron head dome piston high revving 302. A couple guys I know built some 500ci BB Chrysler engines, and with the aluminum heads are able to run 11 to 1 on Sunoco ultra, in fact we ran one on the dyno and it made 640hp on purple, and 645 on ultra.

That`s why I`m going to stay at 10to1 & run high test w/ a bottle of octane booster,I`ll have iron hds also. With only 351 c. i. I can use about a 750 carb, set the timing at 34deg & let it rip & have a good time w/ out breaking the bank.
