any of you out there ever use the ford racing mini starter on your mavs?

the part number i'm talking about is either

    M11000A50 which is a 1.1 kw

    or a

    M11000-B50 which is a 1.6 kw

i know a few of you said you were but no one really meantioned a part number.

anyone try this one? just wondering on fitment... like do i need to drop the steering arm like most or even if it fits with headers... (i'm running super comps 6110-1)

    anyone?

I am running a Summit Starter P/N SUM-820055 with Hooker 6901's. Fits great no mods required.

The one we use on the sprint car is a Powermaster #9403.
About the most powerful you can get.
    2.5 kw, 250 ft/lb ultra torque.
It doesn't blink an eye on an 11 to 1 351w race motor.

I run a Powermaster on mine as well (and luv'in it)....but to answer your question, I have a couple 5.0 buddies that run the FORD mini and it works well for them, but both of their cars are 8 1/2 motors.

Mines just a plain old late model 5.0 starter and has room to fall out on its own around hooker 6901's (found that out first race day) It has no trouble turning my 11:1 motor.
Wish I had a specific answer for ya Derrick.

Ray, what part # or what do you ask for at the parts counter? I am running the starter for a 1968 mustang. It fit fine, can even install it without removing anything at all. But it is a PAIN to do! Would love a smaller starter..

These new mini sized starters are a good bit smaller than an original size. Unless there is some unusual header problems, there should be lots of room.
On the sprint car we designed a full custom engine plate and bell cover and use an 157 tooth auto trans flex plate on the 351 with direct drive and U joint to the Winters quick change rear, in a closed tube and ball assembly.
I had to cut the precision hole in the engine plate to mount the starter unlike the chev that mounts on the block.
Of course the headers are not a problem, being long tubes straight out and down.

I have the FMS-M11000A50 with Hooker Headers (not sure of the part number) I had to drop the header to get it on but haven't had any problems with clearances.

Scotty, I think it was a '94 or '95 Mustang I got it for. You'll have to bypass the solenoid, but that's it. (there's a thread floating around discussing the wiring at length)

Hmm, my stock starter goes in without dropping the header. Just takes a VERY long extension...Thanks Ray, I might try that. It is smaller yes?

It's tiny and only weighs a pound or two.

I took the header off to get the stock starter out. I may have been able to do it w/o removing the header but I took mine off.
