while i was under the hood of my car today i found a date stamp on the washer fluid box jan,7,1970. What does this stamp mean.
My guess is that was when that part was made,, Or that part design ,,, I did see on the tail lights that 70 was the date for years,, So I am betting that was when the design and fabracation was aproved for manufacturing,,, so that part number remaind the same for many years. Just my guess,,,,But Craig Selvey I am sure can tell us,,,, Joe
I am pretty sure that is the date that the jug was installed on the car...as I have found that those dates are very close to the build date of the car it is installed on.
working for toyota i can tell you all the stamp dates on our parts are day of the manufacture, adn end up within about 5 of the car's assembly, Ford did the same thing to my understanding, friend here works at LAP, where the explorers, mountaineers and sport-tracs are built, he's been working at the plant since the edsel and says that the stamp dates are the day the part was stamped/moulded/fabricated and generally it takes 3-4 days from that date for the complete car to roll off the line. Rare occasions where safety stock are used will put the part at as much as 3 months prior to the car's final assembly. Just my
