    Hey Frank, 71Gold:
    How was your steering wheel able to lock while going down the road??
    Was it just that the key turned off?
    Maybe a nuance with the 70-72 steering column - "sweet spot" or such?
    Others have posted that they've had the problem too, but you're the prominent figure of the issue. Sorry bud.
    Kinda curious and can't find the answer...:Handshake

    it happened when the engine died and i turned the switch to off. with the linkage locked in the PARK position it locked the steering wheel. now i have the ...wheel locking pin...removed...(y)

    That makes me feel better! I probably won't remove the wheel locking pin for security/anti joyride reasons then.
    Wouldn't it have locked the steering wheel if the key were turned off, even with column shift? :hmmm:

    shifter lever has to be in..PARK...to lock steering wheel.
