Well I put a new starter on (thanks Steve)but it wont turn over with the key. Hazard light flash, but no turn signals, wipers, radio or headlights. Dome light comes on with the door but not with the switch. I jumped the starter seloniod, and it turns over really fast, but no spark. I used a jumper wire between the batt and coil, but then the Battery ran down. So maybe tomarrow with a fresh charge on the battery I'll try it again. The fuse box is corroded pretty bad, so I guess thats the main elec. problem. If I can get it running I will be able to put it in my garage to start some serious cleaning. Stay tuned... Russ

I have no doubt that most, if not all, of your electrical problems are with the fuse box. I had a few problems with the Stallion and it was due to the corrosion that seems too common with the fuse boxes. I cleaned each blade with a Dremel and used electrical contact cleaner after. The fuses were replaced for general principals. All of my problems were solved then. You can use some dielectric grease (spark plug grease) on the fuse tips sparingly to help keep down the return of the corrosion after the cleaning.

Thats what I figure. I just want to be able to get it started so I can get it out of my dads driveway and into my garage. BTW Ford (enginering dept) That was a great place for the fuse box. Russ

    hahaha

I had that same thought (plus a few explatives) the other day while I was tracking down a rookie wiring mistake I made.
Put three dash light fuses in before considering the possibility that I (who is of course without fault:p ) may have made an error.

i agree about the fuse block, what were they thinking!! but the position in my mustang II's is more of a PITA!

i cant remember if you told me how long it has been sitting, did you do anything with the carb yet? im sure its going to be very dry.. but im sure you probably been down that road already..

If you jumped 12v to the coil and then jumped the solenoid you should get spark. 73's still had points. Either file and regap them or spend a couple of bucks and buy a new set. A bad condenser will also cause no spark.

I did have spark at the points, But by the time I got that far, the battery went dead. I can smell gas at the carb(really stale gas) but it is pumping. The previous owner said the car sat for two years. It was in a really run down garage(the doors of the garage had to be pried out from under the roof just to get the car out). The windows were rolled up tight and the was about 1/2 inch of mold and mildew on the carpet. I Frebres'd the hell out of it for now. It has surface rust on everything. I only have a one car garage, so when my folks go to FL for the winter, I can put my 74 in their garage. Then I can bring the 4 door to my place. (Dear Santa I want a bigger garage). Stay tuned. Russ

Last one. I did get all of the hub caps. That is just dirt on the trunk no rust up there, just in the bottom of the rear quarters. Russ

My 1973 4-door looks very similar....including the AAA sticker that was on the back.
