A friend of mine is in the process of building this '72 maverick to replace his '76 ford capri. The maverick has big shoes to fill, since the capri has run in the 9.00-9.teens in total street trim. He would keep the capri, but chassis updates would mean a total deconstruction of the car, so he decided to start fresh. approximately 14" of engine setback...and no your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, that is a vw front beam. Between the fenders is a large cubic inch BB ford. Front bracing is to just to keep the body in place while the chassis is being built.
that doesn't look like structual steel. it looks like galvanized conduit. might want to re-think that one.

Will do Dave! It is a lot of work especially with out a chassis jig, which is the need for all of the extra bracing during the build. The actual rolling chassis is finished. In the pictures he had the body sitting on the chassis figuring placement and initial ride height.
He hasn't got that far yet. When finished, the cowl is going to be cut out for the carb and boxed in.
Here's the capri that is going into semi retirement. It hasn't changed much look wise in the past 22yrs since it's been built. The only thing different is that it's much faster. The car when first built ran 11.60's....now 9.0's. All street legal.
