hello again! ive decided to go to a b & m shifter. is this a difficult install? the engine is all ready to put back in is there anything better done while its out? i have a c4 auto trans. also can i just go and buy this b & m shifter or is there specific ones? thanks for all your help here i got everything else done no sweat thanks to that. bye column shift im sorry to see you go. seriously. mike
most of the B&M shifters are a universal fit in that it fits several different transmissions and cars. it will have instructions in it for you. i did one on a c4 last year. nothing complicated, just don't crimp the cable, and keep the cable off of the exhaust. it might be easier to cut off the shifter tang while trans is out of car. there will be a clamp on shifter lever for the trans and the factory lever interferes with it. if you hurt the cableand need a replacement, go for an 8 footer. they are about $6 more than the standard 5 footer, but you can make the curves much gentler.
i put a hurst pro matic 2 in my mav, and it was pretty smooth. a 5 ft cable was way to much though i ended up coiling it up at resting it on the top of the tranny. as for the res of the install. it could have been better if i hadnt bought a used shifter. not all the parts were there, so i had to make some of my own.
