HELP. I have a 1974 maverick with a very bad sqeek in the front end. I replaced shocks, coil springs, upper A-frame bushings, ball joints and greesed every spot I could find that moves, and some that don`t. It is very loud and on both sides of car. You can just push down on the front end and it does it, and almost constantly when driving.
Has anyone had this problem or know what it may be?
Please send me a email at success@reliable-net.net if you can help me with this.
    Thanks

For board members info (I emailed a reply).

'Could be worn "Coil Spring Top Insulators" found at Autokrafters (P/N C4DZ-5415A) for $3.95 each.

I am replacing my springs and the insulators in mine were COMPLETELY worn through.

It took me about 6 weeks to receive them (kept back-ordering).

    Link to part at Autokrafters.

    It is probably those...

Like Steve said, it's probably those but another option are the spring perches. These tend to wear out like the top insulators too, but I would just try the insulators first. Speaking of them, I should probably replace mine....

    thanks Corbin

    Thanks Corbin,
We took out a 250 and dropped in a 300 out of a 85 truck. Rebuilt it, bored it 40 over, high proformance cam and a elderbrok intake with a 450cfm holly economiser. We put 302 springs in but didn`t change the insulators or the spring perches. It sounds like the noise is at the top so I will try the insulators.

Steve; how did you get the 300 to fit into the Mav? From what I understand, it is a bear of a swap.

    Hello Earl,
Yes, it was a bear to swap (exspecially in the back yard in the dead of winter). We had to have the oil pan redone, moved the radiator forward 1 and a half inch, lower the motor mounts along with a few other changes, but we got it done. Now that I have done it once it would be much easier to do it a second time, but it was worth it. My son still has a 6cyl. so his insurance stayed low, the 450cfm economiser holly carb with the elderbrock dual port intake uses no more gas then the large single barrel carb. and he has all the power he needs, plus the engine should last for ever in the light car. I have fun with it once in a while. Have beat several V-8`s with it. If you go to do it let me know and we can talk. I still need to put in a 3-speed auto trans with automatic overdrive to make it complete.

Steve; My car is a 302, but I thought the concept was very interesting. I may have a line on another car, a 170 cui 6cyl, and the thought of a 300 six is very interesting. I will let you know.
    Earl
