i need to know what kind of car I can take and change out the front end to have 5 lug and disk brakes and stuff like that on my 1972 maverick
Mavaholic was dead on for your best bets... I will expand to give you a choice. You may have something available to you that you didn't think of. 75-81 Granada, Monarch, Versillies 75-77 Maverick, Comet (duh) 69-73 Mustang 69-70 Cougar 68-69 Fairlane, Montego, Torino, Cyclone There are slight differences between all of these systems. Just as there will be differences to overcome by using 75-77 Maverick parts on a 72 Maverick. The biggest changes are the spindle bearings. You just need to know which models have small bearings, and which use large bearings. First off, your car uses small bearings. If you have stock rims, you cannot use them on large bearings. If you have swapped rims to aftermarket, or later model rims, you are fine. If you intend to keep stock 72 rims, you must use a small bearing system. Here is how it breaks down, IIRC... Small bearings: 69 Stang 69 Cougar 68 Fairlane, Montego, Torino, Cyclone All the rest are large bearing. The small bearing list is also affected by special engines... Some CJ, SCJ, and Boss cars had large bearings no matter what, and Boss 429 have some unique parts. But I don't figure you will be getting your brakes from a Boss car. 65-68 Stang discs also work, however, they are rare and expensive from a swap standpoint. They also are more complex and have more parts because discs were just coming on the scene and they overengineered them at the time. Remember that when you buy parts to rebuild your donor set that all the parts other than the spindle and caliper brackets can be bought outright with no core charge. Therefore you can save yourself on shipping if you buy just the parts that you can't get... Assuming that you do an eBay deal or something. If the rotors need changed anyway, you are wasting money having all that heavy weight shipped to you. I would just get spindles, brackets, back plate off a donor car. Unless everything else is ready to bolt in. Dave
