front racing apron

    guys I sure do like the look of the 66 mustang shelby front racing apron and would like to install it on my maverick what do you guys think. let me know

    I think the opening is bigger for better cooling.

    And.... there's more room for stickers!


    I'd pondered with the idea of modifying the existing valance to have the center 'shelf'. Still might do it when it comes time to paint it.

    Because back in 65-66, only GT350Rs got the apron.
    They were only available on the race cars, not the street GT350s.

    I am not sure if you could have bought the part over the counter from Shelby back then, but later the aftermarket picked up the design to sell to Stang guys.
    The term 'racing apron' just stuck...

    I had one made for my car and will be putting it on the same time I put the Shelby hood on. :)

    Actually, and I may be wrong but I think that that opening held an oil cooler. I have always wanted to do a car like that but never have, Ray I would love to see yours. Travis, Modmav, has drawn up a nice pic and I think it has that apron.

    1971 Maverick Grabber 98 DOHC Cobra engine w/5speed, 1974 Pinto 2.0 4speed daily driver.
    Close Ward. Mine is more of a takeoff of the Eleanor style apron. I was going to use something like that to make room for an intercooler to sit right up front and be visible. I've actually thought about the other apron as well for a more Shelby look.
