After reading Tony's post on his modifications on his shock towers, I was wondering if anyone has looked into grafting a late 80s/early 90s Mustang front clip to a Mav. Has it been done? BTW Tony, good job on yours.
THANKS Scrapper! It's been fun! I once heard that you could put a Pinto front suspension under a Mustang just by cutting out the insides of the frame rails and welding it over top of the Mustang rails. I never looked into it, but I wonder if that would be possible with the Maverick???
Can it be done? I'm sure it can be done. But, is it worth it? Well I don't know. The fox body cars do drive pretty good and they're pretty simple. I wondered about using the mustang struts in my old '74 when I had it. Thought about it real hard, and wound up doing a pinto/Mustang 2 IFS in the '75. It wasn't all that hard, but it wasn't that easy either. If I had to do it over again on a drag car, I'd go with strut style front suspension. I wonder, though, if there is a "street" version that is built stout enough to handle everyday potholes and rough arkansas roads? That would be killer, but it'd still have shock towers. M2 is THE best way to get rid of the towers, IMO..just fill the "holes" in with some sheet metal and weld the crossmember in place. Plenty of room for headers.
