Hey guys, I seem to have acquired a pile of frozen up holleys carters and autolites over the past couple years . Does anyone know the best way to free up frozen throttle shafts ?

    Thanks

take some penetrating spray like pb blaster wd40 or any other. spray the crap out of it. let it set for awhile. spray it some more and start workin it back and forth spraying it ever so often. it will eventually free up. just a matter of patience.

Nice thing about the Holley carb is they have plastic bushings (at least the older ones did) so you can replace them oce you get them freed up. One thing to consider, if the the shafts are stuck how much crap is in the passages and can you get them clean enough for it to run properly?

Pb blaster, Carb cleaner soak, 50/50 mix of water and vinegar followed by oil.
After you free up the throttle shafts you will need to assess their condition and install new shafts and bushings as necessary.

Big ol' bucket of Chem-Dip carb cleaner. Take the whole thing apart, put it in the basket, drop it in, put the lid on and let it soak for a day or two.

Vinegar and water is a mild acid that eats the corrosion between the shaft and body. If you leave it too long it will eat the body too. If you decide to use it put it on the throttle shaft and work it until it comes loose. As soon as it loosens up rinse it with warm water, dry it and oil it.
