I'm installing a new gas tank and want to install a return line in case I want to install fuel injection later on. Is there a better point to place the return line and who has done this? What's the best way to add a port?

Factory returns routed flow over pump, supposedly for cooling. As long as pump is at least partially submerged, I don't see issue. Don't run with less than 1/4 tank of gas.

I thought you were going to keep this car all "stock"?

Back in the early 90's when I installed Holley's Pro-Jection TBI kit on my 74 Comet, I used the existing fuel vapor return line (one that went to the charcoal cannister). The only thing I had to do was drill out the "check valve" that was part of the "fuel vapor separator" assembly on top of the fuel tank, I think I drilled it out to either 1/4" or 5/16". I do not know what the 77 model was like, but must be similar?

1977 would have a plastic check valve. It would be different that what a 1974 tank would have.

Are you installing F30 Spectra gas tank? Perhaps you can use this assemble on top of your tank and then connect the existing fuel vapor return line?

another option, here is sending unit with built in return line for Mustang, perhaps there is something for our Mav/Comet tanks?
