Fuel level gauge/sender problem...

I have a 1968 mustang tank with a mustang sending unit. It's pretty new. The other day I filled up and the auto meter gauge wouldn't read full. After driving it would SLOWLY come up towards full. Now, it read totally empty. Could the sending unit have failed already??

I had a similar issue and my float was sinking

 

thanks, I'll look into it. They sell replacement ones for those I think.

 

there are two different floats on the shelves in our shop mo.

 

so I had 9 gallons in...thankfully the mustang tank has a drain plug...drained it out and took at the fuel sending unit...





I had a copper one or whatever this material is so I replaced it...
this came out of a maverick unit I had laying around the shop...

 

oh and by the way, the sending unit now works! as you can see in the pics above the plastic one just got fuel in it so it was laying all the way down.

 

I figured that was the problem!

 

good call on that! It was a pretty easy fix.

 

been there done that with a brass float...
