Okay I'm a new mechanic. I'm 18 and i just bought my first car. A 1975 mercury comet. The car is in almost perfect condition except one problem. the Fuel tank was completely rusted out. I've already got a new tank, however the fuel sending unit is trash. I've looked everywhere in town i could and got the same answer from everyone. "ever heard of S.O.L?" so here is what i need. a new fuel sending unit, a new filler neck + gasket(where the filler neck enters the tank), and a new fuel return gasket(where the fuel return line connects to the tank). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you do a search you can find the answer to all your questions, it's been covered so many times before.

Back when I needed a sending unit no one was making them, autokrafers was only rebuilding them and the time frame was like 8 months before you got it back.

I got lucky by finding a working one at a junkyard.

Hopefully someone is reproducing them now, I haven't checked recently.

Mustangsunlimited.com has the gaskets you need and autokrafters has the sending unit that is brand new.

Frank are you using the later 76 style tank?

I've never heard of anyone using the mustang sender with the later larger tank, it would help out a lot if it is compatible.

So the '68 Mustang sender unit is the correct one for a '71 Maverick? I need to replace the unit in the '71. It's leaking around the sender wiring post. Thanks!
