swapped the 70 tank for a 65-68 mustang tank. total time was about 8 hours.i think it was time well spent. i had to raise it 2" from original spot(hung too low).i do have some more pictures if you want to see them.here is the before and after.

Fan2488 did you have to vent the tank? The mustang tank does not have a vapor line so what did you do with the old vapor line? I'm trying the same thing but my tank sits under the car & some one took my vapor container off. So there is a vapor line that's just there.

the car is a 69.5 so no vent line.i just used a vented cap. i also did this swap on my 73 also used a vented cap on it.i will post pictures as soon as i resize them.
first picture is original tank removed.then hole enlarged.next is new tank trial fit.then tank at original mount hangs to low. then tank has been raised two inches.

Okay let me make sure I got this right. I can use a mustang tank with a mustang vented gas cap, then I do not have to worry about that vapor line not the container that is under the hood. My container is gone any way. I just found out someone took it off.

    I noticed that
64-68 tanks are 16 gal & 8 inches tall, this tank is widers by a few inches
1969 tank is 20 gal with 9 inches tall, about the same with as 1970 tank
1970 tank is 22 gal with 9 3/4 inches tall
1971-73 tanks all go in from the underside

i am using a vented gas cap so far so good.allthough you should get better gas mileage with the tube hooked up.i beleive the 1970 tanks also mounted from the underside. only the 69.5 were drop in. somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
