So I was checking out the mav's booklet and I went to the specs section. I came across these numbers, and I thought all of you could help me since you're more experienced. 3 speed tranny 2.74; 1.61; 1; Reverse 2.87 4 speed tranny 2.78; 1.93; 1.36; 1; Reverse 2.78 Both trannys came with 3.07 gears in the differential. I've a 4 speed in my mav, is it possible it might be a toploader? thanks Isaac
Since only Mexican Mavericks came with 4 speeds, I seriously doubt its a toploader. Got any pictures of it?
I could take a picture underneath the car. I don't have the tools neither the knowledge to dismount the trans. I'll take a pic today and try to upload it at night.
i didnt even know that mexicen mavericks had 4-speeds. i didnt think any maverick had one. learn something new everyday....
It is always possible that whoever owned the car before you did, installed a Top-loader in it. It is the kind of thing I would have done...... But then I wouldn't have sold it with the Top-loader in it. They are too hard to find and too expensive to replace.
Nah, the only stuff the previous owner added to the car was silicon on the broken sport mirrors, ricer "interiors" and stickers that I already sent to the garbage since day 1 and sound system I wanna get rid of. Engine is stock, stock carb, no headers, no common stuff, everything is stock. I really want to finish my mechanic school so I can mod it heavily. Those gear ratios I typed are from the original maverick's propietary's guide. I could scan the specifications pages to show you what these cars have. About the pics, I'll post them this saturday.
The 4 speed gears you show there are for the wide ratio toploader. There is also a close ratio version and a 3+OD version that have totally different gear sets. The best way to get a handle on what came in yours is to look under the driver's side of the car. If the tranny is iron, and the linkage goes into the side of the case (no cover on the side) then you have one of the toploader types. If the tranny has the linkage going into the side of a cover that is bolted to the case, then you have something else. I am not sure if the Maverick is new enough for an internal rail tranny, but that one is aluminum, and the shifter sticks straight up from the back of the tranny. There is no shifter linkage. Dave
