I just rebuilt and installed my C4 tranny into my 77 Mav. Hooked up all the lines and vaccuum modulator there was one vaccuum line that I didn't know where it went. It was a hard line curved about two feet in length curved and had a rubber hose on the end. Where does that go I forgot. I added tranny fluid and fired her up applied the brake and went through all the gears and nothing happened. Not even a slight jerk indicating that it went into gear. What's up?

The only one with a hard line about 2 feet I have is from the modulator to the back of the carb. Did you check the tranny fluid with the car running. Some times the fluid goes down as the convertor fills up.

The vac modulator is located almost directly over the trans crossmember. Just slightly ahead of it on the pass side.

You checked the fluid level with the car running in Park?

I just checked the fluid level after letting run for 20 minutes and according to the dipsick there was no fluid. I have already added 1 gallon and three quarts, so about 7 quarts of tranny fluid. Does the vaccuum modulator hose coming from behind connect to anything?

The hose on the modulator goes to a vacuum port on the intake or carb. If the diaphram on the modulator breaks, it will suck trans fluid from the trans to the engine, and cause it to have blue or white smoke out the pipes. Check the modulator, or just replace it. If you can't find a leak, and it quite possibly is the cause. Also, it will cause a vacuum leak, and the engine will run a bit ragged (in my experience). When you take the hose off the modulator, it will have fluid in it if the modulator is bad. Take care, and good luck!

OK here's what I got now. I adjusted the inter. and rear bands I can feel the tranny shift gears. I have some movement in the drive range now, but it is sporadic. the tires spin for a few seconds then spin back in the other direction. I also noticed a leak around the pan and a slight leak around the bottom of the bellhousing. I have a small line coming from the vaccumm mod. but its not connected to anything still can't find where to connect it. To be honest I don't remember disconnecting it from anything to begin with.

7 quarts is not enough. put two more and re check the dip stick, keep adding till its full. if your converter was empty it will take 10 to 12 quarts total.

The engine has to be running in park while you check the level.
Fill it to half way between the FULL and ADD marks.

Ok I think I got it narrowed down. I found where the Vac. Mod. goes and hooked it up. I think that the bands are not adjusted properly. I loosen them up and get no movement. I tighten them I get some movement. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do. I also don't have a torque wrench that works properly.

If this is a C4 then tighten the bands until they are just snug (after loosening the locknut) then on the rear band back it out 2 1/2 turns - on the front band back it out 1 turn. Then while you hold the adjusting screw tighten the locknuts down.
The screws have to be tightened down snug - not tight - just snug before making the adjustments.

Here's what I got now. I snugged up the bands and turned the front band 1 3/4 and the rear 3 turns. When I start the car put it in reverse, hit the gas the wheels barely spin. When I put the car in drive the tires barely spin then stop and when I let off the gas the wheels spin the opposite direction. I also here a rattling coming from the tranny. I replaced all the seals, clutches, friction plates, but I used the same pump, stall, and modulator. I am at a lost.

That rattling you here is probably the tabs that go between the adjusting bolt and the band floating around inside, and your tranny holds more than 7qts, try adding a couple more and see what happens.
