I have a 74 Maverick that we are getting ready to paint. I have a couple questions. How do you take off the side moldings, are they accessible to buy new ones? Do most people leave them off? Also the Maverick emblem on the side after the side rear window do you have to take down the headliner to get them off?

I tried hard not to bend the trim but it got bent. The clips are bolted on close to the ends and the ones in the middle are spring clips. The clip's mounting pins are welded to the car. I use a Dremel to cut the pins. The roof emblem can be pried off with a putty scrapper...just walk it off one end at a time

There are nuts on the back side of the moldings. Where there are no nuts, then the factory used plastic clips. The moldings just pry off of the plastic clips.

    Nobody makes the chrome moldings.

Putting them back on or leaving them off is a personal decision. I would say most leave them off.

I took mine off for paint, now that its off its not going back on. I like the without look a lot better. Had a friend from work come out and weld up the holes. Not sure if ill put the rocker chrome back on yet, will have to see when its done.
