I've spent this weekend getting some interior and exterior pieces ready for installation onto the '77 Maverick. The doors, dash, pillars, sterring column are all painted Trim Black. The headliner and sun visors will be factory black. The kick panels, quarter trim panels, door panels, and quarter window rubber trim pieces will be will 65-73 Mustang Charcoal Black. This is a vinyl/plastic color made by Sherwin Williams under their Omni Pak name. I used vinyl prep and flexible surface primer made by SEM. I cleaned the pieces with soap and water and finished with 3M Adhesive, Wax, and Mark Remover. I sprayed the pieces with the vinyl prep followed by two coats of flexible surface primer. I sanded between each coat and before painting. I used two coats of the charcoal black vinyl paint. I used this previous process on some door handles and the durability is fantastic. I spent today at the blasting cabinet getting the side marker light braces, ash tray assembly, and the hood latch mount cleaned up. I then primered the pieces and painted them. I've made these old, rusted pieces look pretty good for shape they were in. I used Krylon Rust Tough Aluminum paint on these pieces after a light sanding of the primer. They will work fine on the '77, since they won't be seen without going to some trouble. Nice job, Terry. All that little detail adds up, but a huge difference it makes when the whole job is done.
