My 71 Comet GT has been sitting for a while & the fuel tank has gone bad. It was re-lined a number of years ago, & the liner is now peeling off & plugging up the fuel line. I don't want to have it relined again, do I, even if I can? After reading this forum, I see that there is a 'almost' factory tank out there, the F-30 Spectra. I will need the longer ST 99 tank straps with it since it is a larger tank. From what I see, Summit Racing has the best price for both. I will also need the right vapor valve & grommet for the top. I cannot find these on Summit, but they are on AutoKrafters. Here is what I don't know. How about a sending unit? The one for my current factory tank is good, but not big enough for the new, larger tank and will not read correctly. Do I buy a new sending unit for the larger tank? Which one? Will my current tank plug work for it & make it read accurately? All this sounds better than using & doing the work for a Mustang tank, right? Thanks for the update.

I didn't know I could use the same tank straps if I just buy new bolts. I assume I can buy new bolts at my local hardware store. I'm good with saving some bucks.

Does anybody make replacement straps for my stock tank? My stock tank is actually in pretty good shape, but I can’t find my straps, and I ordered a 68 mustang sending unit.

This is the sending unit I used , with a F-30 tank The gas gage works right with this combo, vapor valve form Melvin's ford, longer straps will be the best I feel instead of longer bolts. I have a few pix on the site of the install. It was kind of close on my exhaust on driver side but in the end it all worked out. I got all my gas tank seals and filler gasket stuff form Melvin's also.
